this week’s treasury tuesday features the work of a handful of artists who will be at Crafty Balboa: April Showers this Saturday, April 28th! the show is at the Passyunk Fountain at the East Passyunk shopping district in South Philly. it’s in conjunction with the annual Flavors of the Avenue festival- come check out the art and food from 11-5pm.

nick and i have four weddings to attend this year- and they’re all just his friends. my friends haven’t even begun to get engaged yet! but it’s only a matter of time . . . and who wants to give a lame Hallmark card? not i!

go west! craft fest spring 2012 + bread & butter opening.

saturday, april 14th was a busy day for exit343design! it was the kickoff of my spring craft show season in West Philly, as well as the opening for my split silkscreen show at Nice Things Handmade in South Philly with Bryan Sculthorpe of yardsale press. crazy!

this was my first time vending at the Go West! Craft Fest by Vix Emporium. it also coincided with their first time hosting the show at the Woodlands, a cemetery and historic mansion in Philadelphia. the day was perfect- sunny and breezy, with flowers blooming everywhere. my table was littered with petals from this gorgeous cherry tree.

seriously though- if you haven’t been to these historic grounds, it’s really a neighborhood gem. i had never even heard of the Woodlands prior to this, but looking at their list of people buried there, it’s crazy that i hadn’t! i didn’t have much time to peruse, but the national historic landmark is home to the bodies of the man that Bucknell University is named after, Joseph Campbell of Campbell’s soup, famous painter Thomas Eakins, and most of the early Drexel family.

i finally got around to painting my print holders. i’m really pleased with how they turned out!

the show brought out a good and consistent crowd. i didn’t have a helper for the day, but i did get to make the quick dash through to fair and take in some great work. many of my local favorites were present and accounted for- Kaye Rachelle, Blackheart Letterpress, & As the Crow Flies.

my booth neighbor was the silkscreen print duo Totemsoul. Dan and Kaitlin produce hand dyed tshirts with elaborate silkscreen printed adornments. their work definitely has an organic, tribal influenced feel which make sense after reading all about their art backgrounds on their website. one of my favorite pieces by them was their dyed and printed scarves:

the attic youth center, the only independent LGBTQ youth center in Philadelphia, had a booth just down from me. i met a couple of their spunky members, one of which designed that fashionable owl design. love it! i also adore the hugging heart pillow

 i didn’t get to document her table, but i really enjoyed the meticulous drawings by Laura Murdoch. check out this pen and ink fish!! i wonder how long it takes her to craft these:

not far from her booth was a table full of lovely, vintage adornments by Heather Breyer of Bee Vintage Redux. i am seriously obsessed with her work- i am regretting not picking up one of these necklaces!

these clever ceramic flasks by Chase Brown were fabulous. you even get a glimpse of the artist in this pic:

after the craft fest concluded at 5pm, Bryan and I hustled down to South Philly for our show opening at Nice Things. the evening was great- our families showed up, as well as many friends from Rowan and otherwise. thank you so much to Elissa for hosting the event and to everyone who came out! the show is still hanging and will be up until May 10th- be sure to stop in and check it out in the flesh!

(etsy) treasury tuesday! gift tag edition.

hey friends! i’ve decided to work to include regular features on my blog, in addition to posts about upcoming shows and the awesome work i find at them. so welcome to the first edition of etsy treasury tuesday. a “treasury” is a small, curated collection of work found on etsy that’s usually based on a particular theme. the best ones get handpicked to be featured on etsy’s main page. this tuesday’s theme is gift wrap and gift tags- they’re not just for christmas presents! i found a few wrapping papers, but many more amazing gift tags, from stamped to letterpress. check out the gift wrap treasury here.

Happy Monday! That means less than a week until mine and Bryan Sculthorpe’s upcoming silkscreen print show. whoa! Entitled Bread and Butter as an homage to our favorite print professor from Rowan University, the show at Nice Things . . . Handmade in South Philadelphia runs from April 14th until May 9th. however, Bryan and I will be present for our opening reception this coming Saturday, the 14th from 6-10pm. The opening runs in conjunction with East Passyunk’s monthly “Second Saturday” events, so there’s plenty to do in the area that night Please join us to celebrate our new prints and share in some snacks and bevs with us at our first show together in 5 years!

mid march updates.

hey all! lots of new things coming down the pipeline for the spring- i’m still applying to shows, but i do have a few coming up very soon- and you can always check out what’s new on the right hand side of the page. first up- 

this will be my first time participating at the Go West! Craft Fest, put on by VIX Emporium (where I also have some of my wares in stock). this year they’ve shifted the venue to The Woodlands at 4000 Woodland Ave. in West Philadelphia. apparently, it’s a home to a historic mansion and cemetery as well- so come out for mix of art and history. the show is a one day thing on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 11-5pm.

. . . then, directly following the craft fest, my friend and fellow printmaker Bryan Schulthorpe of Yardsale Press and I will be having an opening for our joint show at Nice Things . . . Handmade  on East Passyunk! it will feature a selection of new silkscreen prints from both of us, as well as some of our older work. so please join us on Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 6-10pm at 1731 East Passyunk, Philadelphia, PA 19148. (we’ll have snacks and drinks, too!) thanks so much to Elissa for this wonderful opportunity

the following weekend, i’ll be heading south to participate for the first time in Chattanooga, Tennessee’s Chatty Crafty! i met organizer Lynda Buckels when i vended at the Indie Craft Experience in Atlanta last year and she was very persuasive the show is at The Chattanooga Green at Ross’ Landing on both Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 from 10-6pm daily. i’m headed down a little early to check out the area, so if anyone has any tips or recommendations for the area, let me know!

in may, i’ll be a returning vendor to the Philadelphia institution known as the Art Star Craft Bazaar! this is one of my favorite events each year- so many talented artists in one place this year’s show is still at The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing on both Saturday, May 12th and Sunday, May 13th from 11-6pm. here’s hoping for sunshine and blue skies!

last weekend was my birthday (goodbye 25, helloooo 26) and my boyfriend took me up to vermont for the weekend to escape the st. patty’s madness (did i mention my bday is the 17th?) and attempt to snowboard in the unseasonably warm weather.

well, we did manage to hit the slopes on saturday, although it was a struggle, what with everything melting in the sun . . . it was fun though, and the views were beautiful. thus far, mount snow is the largest mountain i’ve boarded.

it was a great weekend of sun, snow, and delicious food before we headed home on sunday, we took a slight detour to check out the Brattleboro area. on the way, we hit up some clearance sales at snow sports stores in Dover, like Invasion Board Shop. we also happened upon some awesome antiques stores- i picked up a mini picnic basket for show displays at Tallulahs Antiques and we found a fun gift for his friend at Twice Upon a Time. we also picked up some delicious food to cook with . . . which leads me to my last few updates. i’ve added more links to my social networking repertoire. you can now:
